After-market parts specialists

From Canadian Mining Journal, May 2007

Mines can no longer afford unnecessary downtimes resulting from untimely deliverie or costly replacement parts. Some companies are looking to after-market parts (AMP) specialists to assist them where the OEM cannot.

For example, Mike Lamb at DRD Resources was having continued breakage issues with his supplier of impellers for slurry pumps. Chemical analysis determined that the percentage of chrose making up this HCWI imppler was in fact to hight for this operating conditions. Lamb's current supplier only offered 22% chrome. He found an alternative supplier, but the expected delivery time was over 16 weeks and that was unacceptable. Lamb needed a company that could reverse engineer his impeller to find the combination of alloys that would work best. Through research he found and an AMP spcialist that could meet all of his requirements, while meeting change-out deadlines.

Because the needs of the customers are so variable, it is difficult for an OEM supplier to stock all site-specific parts potentially needed. AMP companies such as ICS Wear Group of Surrey, B.C., are willing to work directly with their customers to stock essential replacement parts specific to the needs of the individual. This eliminates the manufacture time and reduces delivery time to just shipment, allowing customers to be competitive in today's ever-increasing market needs.

VANCOUVER B.C. March 2008

A new line of slurry pumps for the mining industry has been developed by Surrey-based ICS Wear Group Inc.

The new ICS Keto Slurry Pump and pump systems are based on almost two decades of servicing mining equipment. As ICS Wear Group repaired pumps from mining operations throughout North and South America, company engineers recognized weaknesses in existing pump design. Areas where pumps were breaking down due to abraison, corrosion and repeat impacts were identified and solutions found.

Pump by pump and client by client, ICS Wear Group developed better components to repair the pumps, producing longer-wearing and more efficient equipment. Realizing the need for better pumps to serve the mining industry, the company then dedicated 18 months to refining all the developed components into a new pump design and conducting extensive testing of the new system.

The result is two new products for the mining industry. The ICS Keto Slurry Pump fits into the same footprint as existing 'AH' pumps but offers the superior performance and increased durability required by 21st century mining operations. The ICS pump sub-system inserts superior components into existing 'AH' pump casings, improving performance with minimal disruption of operation.

Both of these heavy duty centrifugal slurry pumps offer superior performance and longer life. Installation is easy, since replacement pumps, slurry pump parts and pump systems fit the footprint and/or the housing for pre-existing, Replacement Warman Parts, Goulds 3196, and Durco equipment.

Started as a family business in 1993, ICS Wear Group Inc. has more than 200 years' combined experience in underground and surface mining. In addition to its new line of mining pumps, the company offers repair services, replacement parts, and custom fabrication.
